"The Power of Beauty" — where the sacred meets the sea

Yoga Retreat in Gokarna

28 Nov – 12 Dec 2026 & 31 Jan – 14 Feb 2027 11 Days + Optional 4-Day Hampi Extension Max 8–10 Participants

Gokarna — The Power of Beauty

Where the Sacred Meets the Sea

There is a place on India's western coast where the Arabian Sea meets ancient devotion, where pilgrims walk through temple streets and quiet beaches invite you to leave behind the urgency of everyday life.

This is Gokarna.

Here, the sacred is not hidden away. It lives in the temples dedicated to Shiva, in the waters of Koti Tirtha, in the traditions carried through generations, and in the natural beauty of a coastline shaped by the sea.

Imagine beginning your morning with yoga, surrounded by tropical greenery. Later, you might walk barefoot along the sand, explore centuries-old temples, or simply sit beside the ocean, listening to the waves.

This retreat invites you to discover Gokarna not as a visitor rushing from one attraction to another, but as someone with time to experience its rhythms.

Guided by Elena and Yulia, you will share daily yoga practices, moments of reflection, sacred discoveries, and the simple pleasure of being close to nature.

There is time to explore.

Time to rest.

Time to experience a place where spirituality and everyday life are deeply connected.

Eleven days to discover the beauty of Gokarna.
Eleven days to reconnect with the beauty around you — and within you.

Explore. Restore. Transform.

Your journey begins in Goa, where the road leads south toward the coastal landscapes of Karnataka.

In Gokarna, ancient stories of Shiva, sacred temples, forested hills, and the Arabian Sea will become part of your daily experience.

Some days will take you to extraordinary places. Others will offer the freedom to remain beside the sea, practice yoga, and experience the town at your own pace.

This is how your journey unfolds.

Your Gokarna Journey

11 Days of Yoga, Sacred Traditions & Coastal Beauty

The programme is approximate and may be adjusted by the organisers depending on conditions.

Day 01 — From Goa to Gokarna

Your First Encounter With the Arabian Sea

Where the journey begins

Your journey begins upon arrival at Goa Airport, where you are welcomed before traveling approximately three to four hours toward Gokarna.

As you move into coastal Karnataka, the scenery begins to change. Tropical vegetation, small settlements, and the warmth of southern India introduce you to a different rhythm of life.

Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation and take time to rest.

Perhaps your first experience of Gokarna will be a walk along the beach, where the Arabian Sea stretches toward the horizon.

As evening arrives, meet Elena, Yulia, and your fellow travelers.

Together, share your first impressions, learn about the journey ahead, and participate in a gentle relaxation practice.

The evening concludes with dinner.

For now, there is nothing to rush toward. You have arrived.

Day 02 — The Sacred Heart of Gokarna

Where the Stories of Shiva Live On

A town that has welcomed pilgrims for centuries

As you walk through Gokarna's narrow streets, you begin to understand why this coastal town has welcomed pilgrims for centuries.

Visit Shiva's Cave and Rama's Temple, with its nearby water source.

Continue to the ancient Mahabaleshwar Temple, where devotion to Shiva is central to the town's spiritual identity.

Nearby, the Ganesha Temple recalls the legend surrounding the sacred Atmalinga of Shiva.

Your journey continues to Koti Tirtha, a sacred water tank surrounded by shrines, and the Snake Temple.

Between these sacred places, discover Gokarna's everyday life: colorful shopping streets, small shops, and local cafés.

Stop to enjoy traditional rice cakes at an Indian café.

In the afternoon, the atmosphere changes as you return to the beach.

The sound of temple streets gives way to the rhythm of the ocean.

In the evening, participate in yoga practice and a Vedic fire ceremony, an opportunity to reflect on your intentions for the retreat.

Today, Gokarna begins to reveal its true character: a place where devotion, mythology, and ordinary life exist side by side.

Day 03 — The Rhythm of the Coast

Learning to Experience Gokarna Slowly

Time becomes part of the practice

Your morning begins with yoga practice, as the coastal atmosphere invites you into a gentler pace.

Unlike a busy sightseeing journey, this retreat offers time to experience Gokarna without rushing through it.

The afternoon is yours.

Perhaps you will spend time at the beach, enjoy the warmth of the sand, or sit quietly watching the Arabian Sea.

Optional massages, consultations, or additional classes may be available.

The beauty of Gokarna is not limited to its sacred landmarks. It can also be found in ordinary moments beside the ocean.

Return for evening yoga practice.

As the day closes, allow the sounds and colors of the coast to become familiar.

Day 04 — Om Beach & Paradise Beach

Discovering Gokarna's Hidden Coastline

The meeting of forested hills and the sea

After morning yoga practice, enjoy another opportunity to discover Gokarna's remarkable coastal landscapes.

You may choose to relax at the beach or take an optional boat excursion toward Om Beach and Paradise Beach.

Om Beach is known for its distinctive curved shoreline, while Paradise Beach offers a more secluded coastal setting.

From the water, the green hills and rocky coastline reveal a different perspective of Gokarna.

Dolphins are sometimes seen in these waters, although sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Depending on conditions, enjoy time for swimming, sunbathing, or simply appreciating the scenery.

Return for evening yoga practice.

Today, the beauty of Gokarna is expressed through the meeting of forested hills, rocky shores, and the Arabian Sea.

Day 05 — Yana Rocks & Vibhuti Waterfall

Where Nature Holds Ancient Legends

A natural wonder and a sacred destination

Leaving Gokarna's coastline behind, travel toward the forested landscapes of Karnataka.

Your destination is Yana Rocks, where enormous dark limestone formations rise dramatically from the surrounding greenery.

Associated with ancient stories of Shiva, these remarkable formations are both a natural wonder and a sacred pilgrimage destination.

As you approach, the contrast between towering rock and dense forest creates a powerful sense of place.

Continue to Vibhuti Waterfall, where flowing water and tropical vegetation offer a different expression of Karnataka's natural beauty.

If local conditions permit, enjoy the natural pool.

After the excursion, return to Gokarna for evening practice.

Today reveals that the beauty surrounding Gokarna extends far beyond its beaches.

Day 06 — The Beauty of a Quiet Day

A Deeper Connection With Gokarna

An invitation to simply be

Begin the morning with yoga and breathing practices.

By now, the sounds and landscapes of Gokarna may feel familiar.

The ocean.

The tropical greenery.

The paths leading toward the beach.

Today offers the freedom to experience these surroundings at your own pace.

Relax beside the sea, take a peaceful walk, or choose an optional massage, consultation, or additional class.

There is no excursion to complete and no need to fill every moment.

The day is an invitation to discover how different life can feel when you have time to appreciate where you are.

Gather again for evening practice.

Day 07 — Banavasi & Marikamba Devi Temple

Discovering Karnataka Beyond the Coast

Centuries of tradition inland

Today, your journey leads inland, away from Gokarna's beaches and into the cultural landscapes of Karnataka.

Visit the Marikamba Devi Temple, dedicated to a revered form of the Divine Mother.

Continue toward Banavasi, an ancient settlement known for its historic temple heritage.

Here, discover a region whose religious traditions and architecture reflect centuries of history.

The experience offers a different perspective on Karnataka.

Beyond the coastline are towns where sacred stories, temple rituals, and local traditions remain deeply connected to daily life.

As you return, carry with you another dimension of the region you have come to explore.

Day 08 — Returning to the Sea

When Familiar Places Reveal Something New

Becoming familiar with a destination

Begin with morning yoga practice.

The afternoon is open for beach relaxation, massage, additional classes, or consultations according to your preferences.

Perhaps you will return to a favorite stretch of sand.

Perhaps you will notice details that escaped your attention during the first days.

The movement of the waves.

The changing light over the water.

The quiet moments between the activities of the day.

Gokarna offers the rare pleasure of becoming familiar with a destination rather than simply passing through it.

Return for evening practice.

Day 09 — The Quiet Side of Gokarna

A Day to Experience the Present

Moments that are part of the retreat

Your morning begins with yoga practice.

Today offers another opportunity to experience Gokarna on your own terms.

You may spend time by the Arabian Sea, enjoy a massage, or participate in optional additional classes or consultations.

Without a scheduled excursion, there is room to appreciate the quieter side of this sacred coastal town.

A beach walk.

A peaceful afternoon.

The changing colors of the sky.

These moments are part of the retreat just as much as the temples and excursions.

Return for evening yoga practice.

Day 10 — Murudeshwar

Shiva Beside the Arabian Sea

Architecture, devotion, and coastal scenery

Today, discover one of Karnataka's most striking coastal temple complexes.

Travel approximately 70 kilometers from Gokarna to Murudeshwar, where an immense statue of Shiva rises above the Arabian Sea.

The surrounding temple complex and towering gopuram create a remarkable meeting of architecture, devotion, and coastal scenery.

As you explore, discover the religious significance of this place and the stories associated with Shiva.

The excursion takes approximately three to four hours.

Return to Gokarna for evening practice.

Today brings together two of the defining elements of your journey: the sacred traditions of Shiva and the beauty of India's western coast.

Day 11 — Farewell to Gokarna

What the Sea Leaves With You

The final day of the retreat

Your final day of the Gokarna retreat begins with morning yoga practice.

The surroundings that once felt unfamiliar have become part of your experience.

The beaches.

The temples.

The tropical landscapes.

The stories of Shiva.

The rhythm of morning and evening practice.

Enjoy time for relaxation, the beach, massage, or optional additional classes and consultations.

As the retreat concludes, reflect on the moments that have stayed with you.

Perhaps it was a temple visit, a view of the Arabian Sea, or simply an afternoon when you finally had time to slow down.

Today, the Gokarna retreat comes to an end.

You may depart, remain independently in Gokarna, or continue with the optional Hampi extension.

Explore. Restore. Transform.

Optional Extension — Days 12–15

Four Additional Days

Hampi — Where an Ancient Kingdom Still Speaks

Beyond the sacred coastline of Gokarna lies a very different landscape.

Hampi is a place of enormous granite boulders, ancient temples, and the extraordinary remains of the Vijayanagara Empire.

Here, the journey shifts from coastal spirituality to the history, mythology, and architectural legacy of one of South India's great kingdoms.

For travelers who choose to continue, four additional days offer an opportunity to discover this remarkable UNESCO World Heritage destination.

Please note: The Hampi extension is optional and is not included in the standard Gokarna retreat price.

Day 12 — Journey to Hampi

Entering the World of Vijayanagara

From the coast to the ancient kingdom

Depart Gokarna early for the approximately six-to-seven-hour journey to Hampi.

Upon arrival, check into your hotel, enjoy lunch, and rest.

Later, explore Virupaksha Temple, an important living temple dedicated to Shiva.

Discover the legends and traditions associated with this sacred site.

If circumstances allow, there may be an opportunity to observe or participate in an evening ritual.

As sunset approaches, admire Hampi's extraordinary landscape of granite formations and ancient monuments.

Day 13 — Temples & Legends of Hampi

Walking Through a Sacred Kingdom

The legacy of Vijayanagara

Begin with a sunrise visit to Hanuman Temple, reached by a steep staircase and associated with the traditions surrounding Hanuman.

After breakfast, continue to the Vittala Temple complex, famous for its stone chariot and remarkable architecture.

Explore additional historic temples and discover the cultural and artistic legacy of Vijayanagara.

The original itinerary also references Malayavanta Hill and its connection with the Ramayana. This visit is preserved; its timing will be confirmed with Elena before a fixed schedule is published.

Day 14 — Hampi to Goa

One Last Morning Among Ancient Landscapes

The return journey

After breakfast, enjoy a walk near a lake surrounded by unusual rock formations and rice terraces.

Take in the distinctive scenery before beginning the return journey to Goa, approximately seven to eight hours.

Upon arrival, check into your hotel for the night.

Day 15 — Departure from Goa

The Journey Continues

Memories to carry home

Today marks the conclusion of the optional Hampi extension.

Depart from Goa or continue your travels independently.

From the sacred beaches of Gokarna to the extraordinary monuments of Hampi, this journey has revealed different expressions of India's cultural and spiritual heritage.

The places you have visited may now become part of the memories you carry home.

Explore. Restore. Transform.

Is This Retreat For You?

This retreat is for those seeking harmony, inspiration, and new experiences. Whether you want to relax and relieve stress, reconnect with your body, reset your perception, or simply explore a corner of India that few travellers reach — Gokarna offers all of it in one extraordinary place.

You do not need to be an experienced yogi. The programme welcomes complete beginners and seasoned practitioners alike. Children of any age are welcome. What matters is a genuine curiosity and an openness to what India has to offer — its beauty, its ancient wisdom, and the quiet power of daily practice by the sea.

Your guides Elena and Yulia will take care of everything — classes, excursions, Ayurvedic appointments, local logistics, and the small moments that make a journey unforgettable. All you need to do is arrive.

Places to Stay

Gokarna

A small village in the state of Karnataka, nestled between the Agnasini and Gangavali rivers. The name Gokarna translates as "cow's ear" — and according to local legend, this is where Shiva revealed himself to the world. It is both a place of pilgrimage and a place of peaceful relaxation. Ancient temples stand alongside kilometres of pristine beach, and during religious festivals, pilgrims from across India gather here. The most revered sites include the Mahabaleshwar Shiva Temple, the Ganesha Temple, and the Rama Temple perched on a rock just five minutes' walk from the centre. The surrounding area is known for its beaches: the long Main Beach, the sheltered Kudli Beach, and the world-famous Om Beach.

Hampi (Optional Extension)

After the yoga retreat, those who wish can join an adventurous journey to Hampi — one of the most extraordinary places in India. Built on the site of the ancient kingdom of Vijayanagar, its ruins were described by Afanasy Nikitin in the 15th century and later immortalised by Kipling in The Jungle Book. The ruins of the old city — its temples, squares, and palaces — leave a lasting impression. In the main temple complex of Virupaksha, worship has been conducted continuously since the 7th century.

Where We Stay

Our retreat centre is set in a picturesque spot in the jungle, just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Gokarna and close to three beaches. Cosy stone cottages nestle in the tropical forest, with a swimming pool and restaurant on site. Kudli Beach is a 5-minute walk away. Om Beach is a 30-minute walk or 5 minutes by rickshaw. The Gokarna Ayurvedic Centre is just 200 metres from the property.

Fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the sea. Walk along a deserted beach in the morning. Find a café you love on the shore, or stroll to the shopping streets of Gokarna. Everything you need to disconnect from city life is right here.

Yoga Practice

Classes include static and dynamic asana practice, breathing and meditation, and yoga nidra (yogic sleep). Close attention is paid to the structure and technique of each pose, and to the internal work that happens within them.

Morning practice is invigorating — built around the Sun Salutation sequence, dynamic flows, and pranayama. Evening practice turns inward, focusing on alignment, the mechanics of asanas, and deep relaxation techniques. The maximum group size is 8–10 people, ensuring personal attention throughout.

Key Impressions

Stay in Gokarna

Fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the sea. Walk along a deserted beach in the morning. The entire surrounding area — ancient temples, natural beauty, comfortable accommodation — contributes to the deepest possible rest.

Daily Practice

Recharge, regain your strength, and reconnect with your body through morning and evening yoga sessions tailored to all levels.

Ancient Temples

Visiting powerful spiritual places filled with tradition and the living spirit of worship is a deeply valuable experience — one that stays with you long after you return home.

Trip to Hampi

The ruins of the medieval city of Vijayanagar — temples, squares, and palaces that leave a lasting impression. In the Virupaksha temple complex, worship has continued unbroken since the 7th century.

Ayurvedic Treatments

Optional consultations and treatments at the nearby Gokarna Ayurvedic Centre. Ayurveda — "the science of life" — uses oils, herbs, and massage to restore balance and bring a sense of deep harmony.

Small Group

A maximum of 8–10 participants means personal attention, genuine connection, and a pace that suits everyone. Children of any age are welcome.

You Will Be Accompanied By

Elena Efanova — Tour Organiser & Yoga Teacher

Elena organises retreats and journeys in India and is a yoga teacher, astrologer, psychologist, and somatic practitioner. She organises readings of ancient palm leaf manuscripts (nadi astrology) and Vedic ceremonies, and combines Eastern and Western systems of knowledge in her work with spiritual growth, well-being, and the integrity of the individual.

I lead you to the experience you need — whether it is travel, physical exercise, or personal work with your inner request. This helps you find the source of your happy and harmonious life."
